Bashenga was not the original Black Panther, according to the canon of Marvel Comics, but he was the first king of what would eventually become Wakanda. This distinction belonged to a guy by the name of Mosi who, in the year 1,000,000 B.C., joined a prehistoric Avengers team after being picked by the panther goddess Bast. Bashenga saw a terrible vision following Mosi's passing. The vibranium-only meteorite known as The Great Mound, which had come to rest in Wakanda, was bursting at the seams with the massive energies it had absorbed throughout its passage through space. A catastrophic chain reaction would soon be triggered by that energy. Bashenga devised the spear and the blade Skybreaker from pure vibranium in order to halt the domino effect.
